Far from being just “blind faith”, there are many rational and intellectual reasons to believe in the existence of God and the truth of Christian claims. Premier Unbelievable takes a quick tour through the archives to unearth some of the key arguments

Bruce Miller, a pastor in Texas following academic study in theology, in his book: “The 7 Big Questions: Searching for God, Truth, and Purpose”, sought to answer one of the most googled questions: ‘Is there a God?’

This question has been the basis of a great number of Premier Unbelievable shows and articles.

This is the second in a series of articles on Premier Unbelievable, drawing from our interviews and debates with some of the greatest minds in the world.

One of the most succinct presentations of the rational arguments for God’s existence comes from apologist and philosopher William Lane Craig. In his book and ministry Reasonable Faith, he outlines five key arguments for the existence of God: The cosmological argument, the teleological argument, the moral argument, the ontological argument, and the case for the resurrection of Jesus.

There have been many debates exploring each of these points. The moral argument, which states that there are such things as objective moral facts, and that objective moral facts must have an immaterial source - namely, God. Atheist Cambridge Philosopher Arif Ahmed disagrees, and debates with New Zealand’s Christian philosopher Glenn People’s on whether the argument proves the existence of God.

Those arguing for God’s existence on our channels include those from a wide variety of backgrounds. But the existence of top scientists and academics shows that it is possible to be intelligent, rational and Christian. Professor of mathematics John Lennox has talked about his own faith and why he believes it is true with apologist Amy Orr Ewing.

The need for such justification is quite a modern phenomenon. As writer Joel Furches says for Premier Unbelievable: “The ancients would look at the world around them and see the beauty, intelligibility and apparent design, and could only believe that this must all come from a beautiful, intelligent designer. However, as history progressed and the universe was explored, catalogued and explained, the necessity for a designer became less and less apparent.”

But he expands on a variety of reasons why we can believe that God is real and that Christianity is true.
